Firsts...

There are many firsts in your lives and your children's lives. Today was my son's first birthday party by himself. We have gone to the "with parent" ones but now that he is almost 5, we can drop him off and know that he will behave himself and use the manners we have hard wired into his brain. He did have many refreshers on the way to Clayton's house this afternoon. He knew to ask where the washroom was and to say please and thank you at all times. He was ready, turns out I wasn't "in tune" with all the passengers in my van.

We arrived at Clayton's house to what looked like 5 year old pandemonium. Kids were EVERYWHERE!! Some blowing bubbles, some playing hockey, others swinging at a pinata and that was just the FRONT yard. Looked like FUN!!! So Gareth is a bit of a shy guy at first and then usually gets right into things. He looked very out of place at first..didn't know what activity to go to first (and neither would I!) So I saw him pick up a hockey stick and settle in and I was OFF for my last 10K run around the lake until next weekend's race (Gulp...a whole other post entirely) As I got back into the van I looked at my 3 year old daughter in the back seat who was in absolute TEARS!! The poor girl thought she was going to the party too!! My heart broke for her! She kept saying all morning "Gara going to a birthday party today!" and I assumed she knew it was just him going...stupid me. So I had to calm her down which didn't take too long and then try to keep her awake until we got home for her nap..she was BEAT!

So I picked him up at 3pm and Clayton's Mom told me he was just awesome and was out back on the trampoline. OMG they have a TRAMPOLINE???? this kid is NEVER going to want to go home!! My brain started to think up different excuses to tell him to get him off the trampoline without a HUGE scene of tears and wailing. Turns out he could really care less if he sees his Dad before he goes to work the night shift @@ lmao. I managed to get him off and luckily everyone came out at the same time and the party dispersed pretty quickly after he got out. So he got his goodie bag (BIG smiles) and Clayton thanked him and he thanked Clayton for inviting him to his party and off we went for home sweet home.

I was soo proud of my little guy. He really is a low maintenance kinda guy...easily entertained and not aggressive in the least (towards anyone other than his sister @@). Now all he wants to do is go to another birthday party. Makes my heart happy to know that's he's liked by his peers and is making friends. *sigh* They just grow up soo fast.

Don't think that IIIIIIIIII am going to be getting on that bouncing contraption any time soon. I would knock myself OUT!

SO glad that he had a good experience at the party! He is a good boy, and you know it!
