So HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY all you Mom's out there in cyberland!! I hope you all feel appreciated and loved on this ONE day of the recognition of MOMS around the globe. So why have my kids been extra BAD today?? Did they not get the MEMO?? It's is mainly dearest daughter who is giving me a run for my money today but DANG the girl is determined to make me have my angry voice for at least 23 of the 24 hours today.
First we go to brunch at a relatively low end restaurant which is uncharacteristic of my parents but they thought it would be best for the kids and less pressure on me (for them to behave@@). So we drive there at 8:45am and I am giving them the lecture the WHOLE way there on how they should be good and listen and NO FIGHTING and I think all three were practiced while we were there...ugh. They were kicking each other under the table.. would have thought keeping them on opposite sides would have helped...obviously not..they need to be diagonal from each other....mental note. Carys spills her apple juice all over the table within 5 mins of getting there..nice. Then ds picks all these things from the brunch table that he doesn't want once he gets back to his seat. Dd pretty much does the same thing.. "yucky" she says @@. She starts to slink down in the booth seats under the table..I start saying "sit up". This goes on for awhile and then the "mother's day euphoria" starts wearing off and the "old mom" resurfaces and the grip to get back up from under the table tightens up ever so slightly (enter fingernails). My parents always are trying to diffuse the situation and telling me "oh they're not being THAT bad" @@ yeah mom....if I did this back in the day my butt would be soo red you could use it as a night beacon at the airport.
So I decide that I have had all I can handle and we go visit DH at work. That went fine aside from dd running down the hall and falling and skinning both her knees and whining/crying the whole way home. I DID manage to stop off at a Starbucks for my coveted Caramel Macchiato (OMG HEAVEN). In the hour before she had a nap she managed to get into my perfume and spill it all down the front of her and all over the floor and covered the front of our bookcase in chapstick. omg....that GIRL!!!@@@ We had a "fireside chat" and she went for a nap!! YIKES..I needed a break.
So last night Dh got home a little late and came up through our deck entrance. Kinda wondered why but brushed it off as nothing and we ate our dinner. So after dinner Dh says "hey can you come here for a second?" and I said "oh sure but I have to get on these kids rooms" and he says it will only take a minute...... I come out onto the deck and...........................
He got me a LOUNGER for our SUNDECK!!!! OMG I have been whining about wanting one for YEARS now and have been pulling two chairs together and trying to rig something up, but now I have my OWN cool chair that extends all the way back!!! YEAH DH!!!! I usually get a card and flowers but this was an INCREDIBLE gift that will be used WELL!! I can lie back and have some R & R while the kids play...albeit interrupted by bleeding lips and bloody knees but hey, you gotta take what you can get!!
My Mom LOVED her gift. I got her a ceramic plaque that says "First My Mother, Forever my Friend" in script and she was bawling in the restaurant. I was trying to take it as a positive but was hard when she was grabbing Kleenexes to dab the running mascara!! She said she was kinda glad the day was over because she can't take anymore of this CRYING!! haha! Glad she felt appreciated and loved......mission accomplished!! (and I didn't even throw a fit in the restaurant!!)
