The race is finally OVER!!

Well the race is over and I am semi happy with my results. I did want to do better than last year but I do have to take into account a few things. The first time I had done a 10K in an hour THIS year was last Sunday, I am not as "fit" as I was last year and it was very windy off the water today and it was right in your FACE wind. I managed a respectable 57:57 (freaky numbers). Last year was 57 flat...would have preferred something in the 56 region but I will take what I got I guess.

The actual race was pleasant enough. Had that "I want to walk" feeling like 20 times but managed to ignore it and get through to the finish. Some food for thought for NEXT year's race....KNOW THE COURSE!! yeesh! I thought I knew where it ended so I was pacing myself for the long road in front of the parliament and then the rest of the run up Government St. NOPE....I was going slower when I should have been GUNNING it. I look up and low and behold there is a big "FINISH" sign with balloons waving in the breeze and I am like "WTF?? is that for REAL??" so I only "gave it" for about 30 seconds. My own stupid fault...do your research loser.

The finish was not complete without the typical huge bottleneck of people waiting to get their time chip clipped off @@ Just what you want to do after running elbow to elbow for the last hour....stand in an even CLOSER pile of sweaty people for another fifteen minutes. There were people vomiting in garbage buckets and the loud booming voice of the announcer. Not a very pleasant "after race" feeling. I know all to well the "want to vomit" feeling after finishing. Had that my first 10K when I really pushed myself and I was scanning the crowd for a baggie, pail, shoe..ANYTHING to empty the contents of my stomach into..was NOT a nice feeling. But it passed and I headed off to Starbucks, like I did this morning as well, to pick up my triple Grande, Non-Fat Caramel Macchiato..MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM...what a yummy finish prize for myself!!

OH and the picture at the end!! I did have a HUGE grin for the finish even though I was still in shock that I was indeed AT the finish. I will post the pic as soon as they are available online. You can judge the "stylishness" I managed. hehe.
